We firmly believe that they should and especially selections of AY texts. Our position is very simple: first of all we should try to do everything possible to get permissions of copyright holders. However, we also should keep in mind, that the times of serious cataclysms are very near and by hiding some important information from those who deserve to have easy access to it (e.g. through the Internet)  - and these are very many, we are not being compassionate enough which is against our core principles and values although it maybe perfectly legal and acceptable from laymen's perspective. 

Moreover, today the choice is not between having AY-related materials on the web or not but rather between having poor quality, corrupted, distorted, outright false materials used by our hidden enemies to compromise our Cause and steal those who belong to our Path and having good ones. The real evolutionary purpose of the copyright is not to protect someone's profits or self-gratification but to protect integrity and accuracy of the copyrigthed material. Today it means that in the ocean of false, poor quality and distorted Agni Yoga-related web pages, we need a pure, undistorted, authentic island which will save those looking for a refuge in the upcoming storms. We don't have much time and with each day of inaction our karma is growing. Today karma of inaction is greater than karma of imperfect action and therefore we keep doing what we can, trying to gradually improve the quality along the way. This site is certainly not the oasis of authenticity, nor the mount Ararat which will save the Noahs of future cataclysms. At least, not yet. We are here on the web just because others who shouldn't have been here are playing the lead violin and misrepresent the Cause. 

The important acitvity today is not putting the texts themselves on the Web as they are rather esoteric and are hard to understand for most people but rather preparing selections from AY and HR letters which will appeal to everyone. Our brothers and sisters in Russia are very acutely aware of this and preparing many beautiful selections about the key themes. 

Helena Roerich emphasized, almost begged, several times: please, please prepare AY selections, please work actively with the AY texts and her letters to prepare thematic digests more understandable for common, goodwill people. This should have the power of  Law to us, one of her main testaments. We need hundreds, if not thousands of selections on various topics covered most often in the Teaching and appealing to most people. Her closest disciples followed her spiritual Will (Rudsitis, Lukin, Heidok et al). We should do the same. However, without leadership or at least support of the copyright holders we are not likely to succeed. Therefore, our site virtually does not have any materials in English and so we refer all to AYS and to online bookstores which sell them. Perhaps, it is karma of the English-speaking people and we should not try to intervene. Still, our hearts cannot allow us that. Compassion is more important than anything else. Our Teachers set very high standards for us which we should not lower. Compassion, compassion and once more compassion. 

Цe can't just ignore historic necessity, evolution is stronger than us and will eventually force the necessary course of events. Buddha taught us to obey "the necessity of the moment". Law of necessity is really the only God which governs the world and which we should follow. By ignoring it we create own negative karma and join the anti-evolutionary forces. On the balance of evolution and world history, Law of Necessity weighs more than human copyright. 

It can be called either or neither depending on what is meant by these terms, all is a matter of definition. If religion is a purely cultural  phenomenon, set of dogmas, rules and rites, Agni Yoga  is not a religion per se. If religion is a true connection with God (from lat. religare) then Agni Yoga is a religion as any other yoga. It is not a philosophy per se
as it is very practical, ethical teaching of daily life. Still, it has its own set of beliefs and principles as any philosophy. It is a path of selfless altruistic service for Common Good, its main goal is building a world without frontiers, a universal family of
humankind which can be politically expressed as a loose Federation or Confederation. It can be called ideology as it is based on quite specific and powerful ideas but it is free of moral and ethical flaws that each known ideology entails.

Agni Yoga is the one of the most ethical and moral ideologies,  one of the most practical, flexible and open-minded religions, and  one of the most sophisticated, concrete and clearest philosophies. It is scientific in its nature, religious in its method, profound in its philosophy and practical in its ideology.

Therefore, Agni Yoga is not a religion, a philosophy, a science or an ideology taken separately but their fiery synthesis. It shares features of them all, as a system of universal knowledge, but is a unique, a sui generis phenomenon. It can be called modern secular spirituality and as such is an heir to the ancient and medieval systems of secular spirituality.

Agni Yoga is neither a sect, nor a cult. Sects have a sectarian, individualistic mentality. They explicitly separate themselves from a mainstream religion or other spiritual paths and are proud to emphasize their differences from others. On the contrary, Agni Yoga is emphasizing the unity of all goodwill paths and their similarities. Most followers of Agni Yoga are adherents of various religions, ideologies, arts, sciences and philosophies. Agni Yoga is an all-embracing synthesis of all religions, sciences, arts and ideologies and welcomes their followers on the path of selfless service for the Common Good which is truly the main ideology of Agni Yoga.

Agni Yoga is not a cult in a modern sense. But since Agni Yoga cultivates the principles of  Light, Beauty and Love in a daily life and emphasizes the role of Culture which means Cult of Light (Cult' Ur), one can in this narrow meaning only call Agni Yoga a cult of Culture, cult of Light, Beauty, and Love.  However, since the word "cult" today is used to denote a fringe, primitivist, ignorant group of superstitious people with sectarian mentality, we prefer not to use this word today.

We share Helena Roerich's opinion that abortion is a murder unless forced by a rape, disease or other special cases which may require an abortion if it is a lesser evil. The spirit starts entering the embryo on the third-fourth months of pregnancy but a karmic link is established from the very moment of conception. The karma of abortion is very heavy and close to that of murder.

What is your policy on copyright?

Everything on this site can be freely reproduced and distributed as long as there is no profit involved and appropriate source is cited, e.g. Agni Yoga Society, Nicholas Roerich Museum, etc.

In the spiritual literature/art world copyright may be justified only as a protection tool from distortion or misuse. Agni Yoga is not anyone's property regardless of who translated it. However, all the readers should be grateful to those who did the translation as they served the Common Good and therefore all the appropriate credits should be given.

Everything belongs to God. We only have the right to manage it. If we do not manage it properly, God has the right to transfer that right to someone else. Private property and therefore copyright taken in absolute terms is an anti-evolutionary concept which will be eventually replaced with personal management and relative copyright concepts. Obschina and Farewell Advice to the Leader are very clear on that. Translators of AY have a preferential right to manage it, to give no objection to its various uses (for prevention of distortion) or to object to specific uses if they can justify it. They cannot OWN it as it will be against the most basic principles of Agni Yoga. Ownership is an absolute concept. It gives a human being absolute power to abuse his or her management rights even if this is against the will of God. All we produce belongs to God and only God has an absolute copyright power. This is an idealistic vision and unfortunately we still have to abide by the rigid laws of today.

Therefore, we fully recognize only relative copyright power and reject absolute copyright as counter-evolutionary phenomenon.

Nevertheless, we will not place any materials on this site if we are not sure that the author/translator is/would have been agreeable. Obviously the 50 year copyright validity principle is respected.

How is your path related to Alice Bailey's teachings?

We welcome any other group which actively and practically pursues the causes of Light, Love and Beauty, i.e. the cause of World Brotherhood and serves the Common Good. While we are on a very different path from Alice Bailey teachings, we respect the followers of these teachings and share some common foundations, such as the Ancient Wisdom of the Orient brought into the West by Helena Blavatsky. Still, our paths diverged too far: we emphasize heart and practical application of ethics in every day life, they seem to be preoccupied with mind and all kinds of rays, initiations, hierarchies, magic etc. We respectfully disagree with these teachings and welcome all individual seekers to join the Path of Heart leading to Maitreya Sangha. Generally, we believe in tolerance except when it comes to a scorpio in a brother's bed.

Спасибо Вам за столь действенную популяризацию идей Живой Этики! Никто бы лучше не мог распространять это великое Учение в православной среде.Читать Ваши книги про рериховское учение - это истинное удовольствие, ибо ничто так сильно не убеждает, как неубедительнаяя, некомпетентная критика.

Спасибо Вам за укрепление рериховского движения от всего сердца! Дай Вам Сатана здоровья противостоять против всех Сил Света, это воистину героический поступок. Вашему мужеству можно позавидовать! Многим рериховцам надо бы у Вас поучиться столь самотверженному, хотя и бессознательному, служению, даже если и Тьме.

Жаль, что Ваша природная нетерпимость и гордость мешает Вам служить Богу. С Вашим умом и обширными, хотя и тендециозными познаниями в области истории религий, Вы могли стать очень ценным Воином  Света. Пожелаем Вам, дорогой отец Кураев, вспомнить как самые ярые преследователи Христа обращались в Его самых преданных последователей. What is your attitude towards Daniil Andreev?

Daniil Andreev's mission of a Translator from the Teaching of Life into the language of Orthodox Christianity was quite successful. "Rose of the World" might  bridge somewhat the spiritual gap between India and Russia, East and West.

There are some major factual differences between the Agni Yoga Teaching and Rose of the World but it only means that they were intended for different audiences and therefore speak of the same in different terms. Agni Yoga series was written primarily for the people of New Age mentality, free from prejudices, stereotypes and dogmas of the past. This is why the vast majority of followers are in the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, in Latin America and in the US. The people in these lands are relatively more open to new ideas and more forward-looking. Also, according to the Secret Doctrine and Elena Roerich letters, these nations will form the core of the new Sixth root race and the sixth subrace of the Fifth root race.

"Rose of the World" is essentially an introduction to Agni Yoga, the testament of the New Era. It is written as a revelation, in a beautiful, poetic language understandable to novices in the esoteric world. This is why so many people come to Agni Yoga after reading "Rose of the World" which was written primarily for people with strong Christian cultural roots.

One cannot read "Rose of the World" literally. As a poetical work it uses metaphors, hyperbols and symbols. One has to read it with the heart, trying to catch the inner meaning of these symbols and with a great degree of salt. Quite a few distortions of reality could be found there.

However, there are many esoteric truths in this book and some are left on the very surface. It can give useful insights into the characters and missions of famous historical personalities.

Everybody forms opinions. It is natural. The difference between open-minded people and close-minded ones is not presence or absence of opinions, but their flexibility, capacity to change as things evolve.

Making opinion is like taking a diagnosis, a snapshot of current state, in order to be able to analyze a phenomenon or a person and make decisions about actions accordingly. When one abstains from making a value judgement is not the same as making an opinion. Opinion is relatively more neutral and more like a subjective snapshot of reality in one's own world. Not making an opinion is like hiding from reality, from the battle of life, refusing to take the challenge of the circumstances, the responsibility of leadership. Life is a battlefield and when one meets someone or something and refuses to determine whether it is a friend, enemy or neutral, one becomes vulnerable and risks one's own fortune and that of those who follow or accompany him or her. Who refuses to fight automatically loses by default. Does anyone really prefer to be a loser by default? Neither H.Roerich nor N. Roerich were afraid to make their opinions of the events and people, nor anyone who could be called a Messenger of Light. There is hardly an example of a hero or a heroine who refused to say what is right and what is wrong.

To be a leader means to be a warrior since only a warrior is not afraid to openly face challenges, recognize them, discern them and master them and help others who follow to master them. Discovering an enemy in an apparent friend is itself a victory, it is like squeezing poison out of a snake's tongue. Enemy disguised as a friend is much more dangerous than an open enemy. Open friendship is much more powerful than a hidden friendship. This takes discernment, i.e. making opinions. Remember how much the Teaching and H. Roerich talk about the importance of discernment.

Every word in our speech and writing is reflective of our age-long opinions and beliefs. Indeed one can never agree that in our world to have an open mind is the same as to have no opinions. It may be a reality in Devachan or other higher worlds but here it can be only a dream unless one has achieved the state of Buddhahood from which most of us are infinitely far away.

What is the relationship between  MM and Jesus of Nazareth?

MM was His Teacher and when Jesus  could not complete His mission, MM/Maitreya entered Jesus's body and helped bring it to completion.
